Welcome to the Belsize Community Library’s Art Competition! We’re thrilled to invite all nurseries and primary school children in the borough of Camden to participate in our exciting event. This year, our theme is “The Peacock to the Rescue!” inspired by a true story that captivated the world.

The Story Behind the Theme

In April 2018, an extraordinary event unfolded in North London. A rare and exotic Hoopoe bird, usually found in southern England, was carried by a strong tail-wind all the way to London. This incredible journey left bird watchers amazed. We imagine the Hoopoe could have found its way to the London Zoo, where it was rescued by our infamous Peacock and the star-librarian, Lucy.

Your Creative Challenge

We invite all participants to let their creativity soar as they illustrate and depict this unique incident. Imagine the rescue of your own Hoopoe bird! Create artwork that showcases your interpretation of the Hoopoe and its rescue by our beloved Peacock and Lucy.
