Belonging is the start of every child’s journey
From cradle to community, we stand alongside children, young people and families, creating spaces where they can grow, connect and thrive.
When children flourish, communities do too
At the Winch, we’re working to make sure every child has the chance to grow up feeling safe and supported.
But we can’t do it alone.
Your support helps us stay by a child’s side – through the ups, downs and everything in between.
It means parents have somewhere to turn when life gets tough.
It means children and young people have someone in their corner when things feel uncertain.
And it helps us keep building the kind of community where everyone has a place to belong.
Change starts with relationships
At the Winch, everything we do is built on relationships. We get to know children, young people and families over time – listening, showing up, and working things out together.
Abigail’s story
Abigail is a mother facing trauma, isolation, and her daughter’s complex medical needs. With little emotional support, she struggled alone. Her story highlights the need for community services to prioritise connection and skilled support. The Winch’s parenting course offered confidence, solidarity, and a safe space.
Sarah’s story
Sarah is a young person traumatised by domestic violence. Her school focused on behavioural issues, giving punishment instead of support. Her story highlights the urgent need for schools to prioritise safety, trust, and skilled support for students with adverse childhood experiences..
Robert’s story
Robert, a six-year-old, struggled with self-regulation and expressing emotions, sometimes reacting physically. Through 1:1 sessions, a positive support plan, and a designated safe space, he has made progress, learning to manage his feelings, communicate verbally, and use strategies to calm himself when upset.
