Ammara left Pakistan with her husband, initially planning to stay for just a few years. She embarked on a journey with the hope of creating a better life for herself and seeking opportunities that were not available to her in her own country.
Despite facing challenges such as language barriers, cultural adjustments, and a lack of confidence, she remained steadfast in her pursuit of a better future. Following the birth of her daughter and amidst feelings of isolation, a health visitor introduced her to the Winch.
For Ammara, the Winch became more than just a community hub—it became her second home. She felt welcomed and joined in with whatever opportunities she could, such as mother-and-baby groups and fitness classes. This helped Ammara rediscover her confidence and resilience. Ammara started taking classes on British values, phonics, and mathematics.
These opportunities not only expanded her skill set but also instilled in her the belief that she could strive for more.
Ammara’s pursuit of education didn’t stop there. She is currently enrolled in college, studying childcare —an achievement she once deemed beyond her reach. Her aspirations extend further; she dreams of one day running her own nursery.
Despite moments of loneliness and uncertainty, Ammara’s journey exemplifies the transformative power of resilience and self-investment.
Reflecting on her journey, Ammara shares a piece of advice for others: “Never underestimate your potential.” From her own life experiences, she has learned the value of continually striving for growth and self-discovery. As she continues to expand her horizons, Ammara’s journey epitomises the transformative power of investing in oneself.
