Our approach

Why we exist

Camden is one of London’s most unequal boroughs. While some children grow up with every opportunity, others face poverty, trauma, exclusion and hunger  often just streets apart.

42%

of children live in poverty one of the highest rates in London

1 in 5

young people aged have diagnosed mental health disorder

600

families are in temporary accommodation

7,000

children live in overcrowded homes

Many are care-experienced, excluded from school or in contact with the criminal justice system. Girls and young women face added risks, including gender-based violence and exploitation, often overlooked in mainstream youth provision.

When you invest in the Winch, you’re helping children and young people build stronger futures and strengthening the community around them.

From cradle to community, we walk alongside families every step of the way – combining early intervention, consistent relationships and opportunities that build confidence, skills and connection.

Our work goes beyond delivering services. We create spaces where people feel they belong, listen to community voices and build genuine relationships over time. Many of our staff bring lived experience, helping us understand local realities and respond with empathy and insight.

We know inequality affects whole communities, not just individuals. That’s why we work alongside residents to challenge barriers and create fairer opportunities, guided by our Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) commitment.

We can’t do it alone

We work with more than 70 trusted partners including mental health providers, schools, support centres, food support organisations and Camden Council  ensuring families can access the right help at the right time.

From cradle to community

Our strategy reflects our values and ambition. We:

  • Work alongside children and young people to develop their skills, confidence, and sense of belonging.
  • Connect people to build resourceful, self-sustaining communities.
  • Support communities to lead change, empowering residents to shape their futures.
  • Adapt, learn, and grow, evolving how we work to meet new challenges.

Through all we do, we champion children and families, tackle the causes and consequences of inequality, and safeguard everyone we work with.
