Robert, a 6-year-old child, sometimes struggled with self-regulation. When he didn’t get his own way he would occasionally react by throwing himself on the floor, removing his shoes, and covering his ears. Any initial attempts to communicate with him could result in physical reactions. To better understand his behaviour, we maintained regular communication with his mother and to devise a positive support plan.
We conducted 1:1 short sessions with him to help him understand his feelings and challenges. Additionally, we suggested designating a room as his safe space for when he felt very upset.
Over the last few months, Robert has made significant progress. He is learning to manage his emotions and is using words more frequently to express his feelings. There have been situations he was unhappy with, he now finds a space to calm down. We will continue to support Robert in his growth and development.
