No Homework Reading Group with Robert Hudson

19 November @ 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 2:30 pm on Thursday, repeating indefinitely

Reading groups are a great way to get together with other interested people and talk about how writing works for us. But making sure you’ve read the relevant book in advance can feel awfully like homework!

This “Reading Round“-style group, led by novelist Robert Hudson, works differently.

– There’s no advance reading required.
– Numbers are limited (a group of 12-16) but the room will be friendly and non-judgemental.
– Every week, we’ll read out a short story or other piece – journalism, speech or whatever – and then discuss it. Then we’ll do the same with a poem.
– RLF reading groups have great camaraderie, and people get more and more confident about making artistic judgements and speaking about those judgements. They’re a really enjoyable and un-pressurised way to think about how writers achieve their effects.

It will be a lively weekly discussion about how and why short stories, speeches, journalism, essays and poems work – or don’t. It will run on Thursday afternoons from 2pm, and Robert Hudson is looking for a group of about 15 people who can come most weeks (life might get in the way sometimes, but the group definitely works best when it becomes a regular community!).

Get in touch by email for more details and to join up.

This event is organised by the Royal Literary Fund.
