Banned Book Club!

18 December @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every month that begins at 7:00 pm on day Third of the month, repeating indefinitely

Belsize Community Library’s own book club looks at literature through the lens of censorship.

Usually the Wednesday of third month, at 7pm, we meet to discuss a different banned book. Some have been banned by censors in the UK, some by other governments or organisations. Why were these books banned? What effect did it have on the book’s reception and the wider society that banned it? What relevance does the book have to us?

For each session we invite a guest participant whose area of expertise will help us to appreciate the book – not just as a document of censorship, but on its own literary merits.

This month’s book club book is dedicate to Black History Month and we’ll be reading James Baldwin’s Another Country. Come and pick a copy at the library.
