Capital Fundraising Consultant

The Winch is seeking an experienced capital fundraising consultant to help us think strategically and ambitiously about the fundraising potential for significant investment in our founding home at 21 Winchester Road. This is a serious and consequential piece of work, arriving at a pivotal moment in our development as an organisation.

We are looking for someone who combines strategic depth with practical experience of capital campaigns. We want someone who can help us direct our energy toward the areas of greatest fundraising viability and community impact.

Our context

The Winch has been rooted in this site since 1973. As an in-place, in-person organisation serving a defined geography in North Camden, our building is not simply an operational asset. It is central to our identity and to our community’s understanding of who we are and what we do.

We are now at the point where we must plan meaningfully for its future.  We intend to explore a range of options, from basic repair to an ambitious redevelopment. This is an opportunity to imagine a future-ready community building that can sustain our programmes and the people who depend on them for decades to come.

What we are asking for

Working closely with our fundraising team, the appointed consultant will be expected to deliver:

  • A clear, evidenced assessment of our realistic fundraising potential, with a considered view on the appropriate level of ambition given our organisational profile, structure, and areas for growth.
  • A defined fundraising pathway, setting out the team capacity and capabilities , timeline, lead-in requirements, and funding opportunities and research needed to deliver a capital campaign successfully.
  • An outline case for support, that situates our capital ambitions within a broader context of community need, organisational excellence, and civic vision.

How we expect to work together

We anticipate the work will involve the following:

  • An early testing and confirmation of the brief, establishing clear acceptance criteria, work plan, and reporting arrangements.
  • Immersion in the Winch: our history, culture, programmes, community and people.
  • Dedicated time with our Board and Fundraising Team to explore our vision, capacity, and long-term ambitions, and connection to Camden Council colleagues.
  • Research on potential funders and strategic advice on comparable campaigns, with a frank assessment of what works and what is realistic in our context.
  • Connection with other strategic workstreams, so that the capital programme is coherent with our wider organisational direction.
  • We are an in-person organisation. While most  elements of this work can be conducted remotely, we expect the appointed consultant to commit some time on site.

Timeline and budget

We would like the project completed by 5 June. We aim to appoint shortly after the Easter holidays. We expect the majority of the work to take place in the month of May.

The total budget is £5,000 inclusive of VAT, anticipated to cover approximately 8 days at a day rate of £500 plus VAT. We welcome proposals that reflect this budget and explain clearly how time will be allocated.

How to apply

Please submit an Expression of Interest of no more than two pages by 5:00pm on 16 April 2026, to jobs@thewinch.org.

Your submission should outline relevant prior experience of capital fundraising consultancy with examples where possible, set out your approach to this brief, and confirm your availability and day rate.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a panel interview during the week commencing 20 April, held online. We will share questions in advance.

About The Winch

Founded in 1973, The Winch works to ensure that young people in North Camden can succeed, regardless of their circumstances. We deliver a cradle-to-community programme of support for children, young people, and families facing chronic disadvantage through critical transitions in their lives. Our services include support for families in temporary accommodation, an afterschool and holiday club, youth work, and community-led social change initiatives. Our work is grounded in participatory practice, which we believe is central to building a more inclusive and equitable neighbourhood.

Last year, over 3,000 people benefited from our work. We are guided by three core values: joy, care, and courage.
